MISSIONS AT LUMC
The missions programs at LUMC are organized, coordinated, and supported by the members of the LUMC missions committee, which has regularly scheduled meetings on the second Monday of each month. The purpose of the missions programs is to fulfill the mandate of Matthew 25: 35-40, in which we are asked to
feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and minister to the prisoner. Mission projects include local, national, and international projects and offer mission opportunities to church and community members of all ages. Some of the missions that we support include:
Angel Tree Christmas Ministry: We partner with Prison Fellowship ministry to distribute Christmas presents to children in Dougherty, Lee, and Terrell Counties whose parents are incarcerated. Church members “adopt” a child to buy a present for and presents are given to the children during a Christmas party at the church.
Sunday Evening with our Neighbors (SEWN): At least twice a year, LUMC
assists First United Methodist of Albany and Mission Change in their weekly
outreach mission of feeding the area homeless on Sunday evenings. This
opportunity is open to both adults and youth in the church.
UMCOR: The United Methodist Committee on Relief responds to natural
disasters throughout the United States and provides help and home repairs to people in need in various regions of the country. LUMC supports UMCOR by making and donating health kits and by providing donations for other UMCOR needs. Some members of LUMC travel to the UMCOR distribution center at Sager Brown in Louisiana and work as volunteers in the warehouse or on projects. Click here for more information.
Mission Cup Ministry: Even the youngest children at LUMC are offered an
opportunity to support missions. On the third Sunday of each month, the children of the church pass cups during the morning worship to collect change to help various church-supported missions.
Food Pantry: The Food Pantry is open each Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and provides canned and dried foods to those in need in Lee County.
Home Repair: LUMC understands the need for home repair in our community exists, and we want to make a difference. Many volunteers go out on a regular basis to work with homeowners on repair projects around their home. From roofing & plumbing, to painting & carpentry, our goal is to fix homes and hearts.
