El Salvador Missions Trip 2016 / 2017
Donielle Chittick - "Missions have always been something I have enjoyed doing. Around a year ago, God decided to put on my heart that he wanted me to go on a mission trip. I had no clue where to start.... but as He reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” A few months later I received an email about interest in going on a mission trip to El Salvador. I prayed about it and a couple days later I sent the email explaining that I was interested in going. With that, God made sure everything would work out. I am very thankful for my church family and my family who prayed and assisted me on making this trip possible.
While in Ahuachapan, El Salvador I helped build a Methodist Church and home. I helped mix concrete, dug holes, and put up columns. I also helped distribute bags of food to families in the community. While doing this we would visit and pray with the families in the houses. For a couple of days, I was also able to help out with kids' bible school. Kids Bible school was my favorite thing to do! At bible school, the kids were learning about who God was, who Jesus was, and what their mission is as Christians living in this world. I had no clue what to expect going on my first mission and in a country where I didn't understand the language my faith in God grew tremendously. The Salvadoran people taught me more about faith and loving God no matter how much or little you have. I enjoyed sharing the word of God with the Salvadoran people but in the end, I realized that they taught me way more than I taught them. I am forever grateful for the experience God granted me."
